Nordic
the history of
Nordic is a carvel planked, cutter rigged double ender from the drawing board of Philip Rhodes. Penned in 1926 and built by Max Peek in Christchurch, New Zealand, following a 10+ year build she was launched in 1948. Closely resembling the Colin Archer designs of her era she is heavily built of kauri, spotted gum and ironbark, with grown-to-shape pohutukawa knees.
Having a colourful and well-documented history she is nearing the completion of her 3rd full refit. Turning her current caretakers lifelong passion into a full-time career, it was only right the company be named after her.
From video footage of her construction in the 30s, to her launch in the 40s, with receipts dating back to 1933 and all kauri plugs used to cast the bronze fittings -Nordic’s history has been collated and cherished by the few guardians she has had over her 75 years.
